Remember When – a quick message on hygge healing

I talk a lot on my blog and with my friends about outlets to purge negativity. Though, this letter is not for you it’s for me. However, letters like these can be healing for anyone. I’ve decided to share my letter in hopes to demonstrate how healing they can be.

We all have good and bad days. Sometimes I gravitate back towards the past. When that happens it’s time to “write it out.” My letter is full of challenges which is a word I’ve chosen to replace my personal bullying experiences. I’ll find myself drifting back to those negative emotions and circumstances. It’s a place I fight to leave behind daily.

No one could ever take away what happened but I can certainly change my perspective. I can spin those bad things into a positive outlook. I’ve written a letter to my past self as a part of this life long journey to heal and make more room for my passion in hygge and happy living. I want people to know that a life rooted in happiness will take care of itself with a little effort. I want to reach people and share stories. Which is why I’m sharing this today.

Dear Me,

Remember when you were shoved into a locker…
Remember when you were tripped down the stairs…
Remember when you did that group project on your own…
Remember when you ate your lunches in the bathroom…
Remember when your bully dumped a full blue slushee on your head…
Remember when your Spanish teacher didn’t care and sent you to the bathroom in tears to get the blue slushee out of your hair and clothes…
Remember when your bully said you’d never find love or get married and that no one could ever want you…
Remember when your bully said he’d turn your friends against you and he did…
Remember when your bully called you ugly with caterpillar eyebrows…
Remember when you were dragged across the quad…
Remember when you were backed into a corner…
Remember when you cried yourself to sleep every night for weeks…

Remember when… the list seemed like it would never stop growing…

Guess what…

You blossomed. You’re confident, beautiful and free. You no longer worry about the next day or what bad things could happen. You found a love that outshines your wildest dreams. You found a man who respects and loves you. Whose love eases the pain more each day. You moved to a place you’ve been dreaming of since you were a child. You were lucky enough to find a house and created a beautiful home. Your life is wonderful. Those challenges were non-excusable but you survived and flourished. You’re happy every single day. You discovered a life steeped in hygge. You’ve created a beautiful personal bubble and the world is yours.

Love,
Me (MillennialHygge)
